Week 5

April 28 - May 3

Create your own Activity

Our fifth project in this series helps us prepare for classes at the golf course! We take our knowledge and creativity to design an activity for kids to learn a life skill and golf skill on the putting green, chipping green, sand bunker, driving range, golf course, or some other space at the facility - you're the coach, and you get to choose! Guidelines: Every activity should help students practice & learn two main things: 1) Golf skill: target awareness, distance response... there are 9! View full list of First Tee Golf Fundamentals 2) Life Skill: Core Value or Core Lesson (4 R's, STAR, PPA, etc.). View full chart of First Tee Core Lessons Try to be original, but feel free to modify a game you've played before. Bonus points for activities that promote social distancing! Looking for some inspiration? Here are some examples: Activity Outline - Baseball Golf Activity Outline - Traffic Jam Putting Activity Outline - Memory

All the documents you'll need in the "Resources" folder

How to submit this project:

Download the blank Activity Outline sheet HERE (also in the "Resources" folder). Complete the outline on your computer, or print and write by hand. Save the file or scan/photo of the document in your project folder. You're done!

Week 4

April 21 - 26

Swing Tip Video

Our fourth project in this series is all about developing golf skills at home, both for ourselves and also helping others develop theirs. You don't need to be a professional golf instructor to share a really good tip, so think of your favorite, or the one that helps you the most, and tell others how it works! Aim for about 1 minute, but there is no minimum or maximum time for this project. And if you haven't made a video before, don't be shy. It might require a few takes - that is totally normal! Looking for some inspiration? Check out a few examples made by our coaches and Ace members: Swing Tip - Tempo: Ace members Keiki and Thomas Target Awareness: Coaches Matt & Fabian Grip Tips: Ace members Daniel & Crystal "Toe Up Drill" with Coaches Mike & Ann

How to submit this project:

Create your video from home, and edit if you'd like. Upload the video file to your personal folder on Google Drive. See instructions below. You're done!

Week 3

April 14 - 19

Assistant Coach Training (online course)

Our second project in this series is all about continuous learning, and in doing so we also take the next step in our coaching journey. With the ACT online course, provided by First Tee Headquarters in St. Augustine, FL, you will gain more insight into the purpose, philosophy, and techniques of coaching at First Tee. The interactive training takes about 90 minutes to complete, and you can save your status and complete in separate sessions.

How to submit this project:

Check your email in the coming days and you should see one that looks like this:

Just follow the link, enter your information, and once you're in the portal select "Content Library" in the left sidebar. Voila - there is the ACT training on top! Once you complete the ACT Training, just upload a copy of your certificate or screenshot of your confirmation to your google folder... and celebrate your new accomplishment!

Week 2

April 7 - 12

Our second project in this series is all about fitness and exercise! How do you warm up before an activity or round of golf? What are some ways you can get your body moving to stretch out and get your heart rate up? Your assignment is to record yourself leading a warm-up at home!

Aim for about 1 minute, but there is no minimum or maximum time for this project. And if you haven't made a video before, don't be shy, and it might require a few takes - that is totally normal!

Week 1

March 31 - April 5

Our first project is simple. Just complete Lesson 22 of the Eagle Yardage Book: "Staying Well for Life" (pages 4-23). This covers four aspects of healthy living, including the body, mind, heart, and social life. All of these activities can be completed from home, but does require some thought, practice, and maybe a little research for ideas. But there's no better time than now to work on "Staying Well for Life."

How to submit this project:

When you are finished with the section, just take a picture of your favorite page, or the one that you felt was most important, and upload that photo to your file. See instructions below.

Message from Coach Evan

About the Project Series

Thank you for being involved in our Junior Leadership Program as a junior coach, intern, Junior Advisory Board member, or Ace member. YOU are such an important part of the First Tee experience, providing support, supervision, and setting a positive example for others. These are also ideal roles to develop your own skills as well, like leadership, planning, and public speaking.

We may not be hosting a regular spring session, but we can still learn, practice, and make an impact. Below you will see that we've created a 6-week program that can help you build skills, knowledge, and experience to continue your path through the Junior Leadership Program, and be ready to go when we return for our next season (we are currently planning for summer, to begin late June, and we also hope to coordinate some additional opportunities in the months prior if circumstances allow).

See below for the outline of activities and details on the first week's project! Every Tuesday we will send out an update with that week's project, which will typically take about 1-3 hours to complete.

Notes about the projects:

    • You are welcome to complete some and not all of the projects. This is good experience, but definitely not mandatory!
    • As valuable training for junior coaches, all time spent on these 6 projects is reportable as volunteer or community service hours, if you would like to submit those to your school or organization.
    • If you are a First Tee volunteer or intern and looking to apply for a new role in the future (as intern or staff coach), traditional class hours are still essential, but we will certainly consider your work this season as progress!
    • How to submit your projects? Create a folder with your name using the link below and add your files there.

Our goal is to award as many different people as possible, because sometimes we are strong in some areas and not others. So just do your best!
